Apple Glass Could Soon Skip Tiny Screens as iPhone Giant Embarks on Research

(Apple Insider) Apple is researching how its future AR devices, including Apple Glass, can skip tiny screens and use micro projectors to send images directly into the person’s retina.

Apple’s “direct retinal projector,” the newly-granted patent, is expected to tackle sickness or headaches associated with watching augmented reality or virtual reality on a headset.

Apple said the conventional virtual reality and augmented reality systems have weaknesses of accommodation-convergence mismatch, which the direct retinal projector solves.

Projecting images into the retina of the eyes will reportedly be like the way light enters the eye. Apple’s patent does not cover the issues of the strength of projection of light or the brightness of the source.

AAPL: NASDAQ is up +0.10%.
