EU Posts a Higher 3.6% Annual Inflation in Sept. Compared to 3.4% in the Euro Area

(Eurostat) Annual inflation was 3.6% in the EU in September, up from 3.2% the previous month, and 0.3% a year ago. The inflation was 3.4% in the euro area, higher than 3.0% in August, and -0.3% the prior year.

Annual Inflation Rates

Energy contributed the highest annual increase in inflation in the euro area by 1.63 percentage points.

Services contributed 0.72 percentage points increase in annual inflation in the euro area, while non-energy industrial goods led to 0.57 pp. uptick. Food, alcohol, and tobacco led to a 0.44 pp. increase.

Malta, Portugal, and Greece had the lowest annual inflation. Estonia, Lithuania, and Poland posted the largest annual inflation rate. 

DAX is up +0.12%, EURUSD is down -0.04%.
