(CoinDesk) Visa is working with Ethereum scaling entity ConsenSys for a new card that will bridge the gap between traditional finance and central bank digital currency networks.
Under a new CBDC-linked Visa card, users will be able to plug into the module, allowing them to integrate their existing infrastructure.
Visa’s head of CBDC Catherine Gu says customers will be able to use the CBDC-linked card globally, where Visa is accepted.
Gu expects the new integration to allow greater access to financial services and improve the disbursements of government funds, making it more secure and targeted.
Visa now targets to work with central banks in the Spring to prototype and pilot the payment module.
The news came after, in early December, Visa said it had come up with a global crypto advisory team to help financial institutions with the crypto businesses as demand grows.
