US Economic Index Maintains an Upward Trajectory After a Gain of 0.9% In August

(The Conference Board) The US Conference Board Leading Economic Index reached 117.1 in August, up 0.9% and after another increase of 0.8% in July. The index had risen by 0.6% in June.

The Coincident Economic Index rose by 0.2% in August to reach 105.9, a slower increase compared to 0.6% and 0.5% in July and June, respectively,

The Lagging Economic Index rose marginally by 0.1% to reach 106.3, compared to a gain of 0.5% in July and 0.1% in June.

Conference Board’s Ataman Ozyildirim says the trend reflects a robust growth projection for the rest of the year, amid headwinds of Covid variants and inflation fears. US GDP is expected to rise by almost 6% year over year in 2021, before cooling to 4% in 2022.

SPY is up +1.25%, DXY is down -0.46%.
