US Import Prices Ease to a 0.3% Increase Amid Higher Fuel Prices

(BLS) Import prices in the US rose by 0.3% in July, a slower rate compared to 1.1% increase in June, and 1.3% in May.

The increase in imports reflected rising fuel prices, which ticked higher by 2.9% July, but it was the smallest rise since November.

On a 12-month basis to July 2021, imports rose by 10.2% on higher prices for both fuel and nonfuel items. 

Exports also rose, at a higher rate of 1.3% in July, compared to a 1.2% surge in June, but lower than 2.3% in May.

For the year that ended July, export prices rose by 17.2%, compared to 16.9% in the year ending June 2021.
