US Annual Consumer Prices Rise the Highest in Almost 31 Years in October

(BLS) US posted a 6.2% increase in Consumer Price Index over the 12 months that ended in October, the biggest jump since November 1990.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.9% in October, a further increase after jumping by 0.4% in September.

The energy index rose by 4.8% in October from September, and was up by 30% over the 12 months. Gasoline index ticked higher by 6.1% in October from September.

The food index rose by a monthly 0.9% while the index for food at home increased by 1.0%. Over the twelve months ending October, the food index was up 5.3%.

Less food and energy, consumer prices rose by 0.6% in October, after rising again by 0.2% in September. The index was up by 4.6% over the last 12 months ending October, the largest jump since August 1991.
