(Forbes) The 90-day missions of the United States Navy’s solar-powered drone Skydweller will be run on the software of Palantir Technologies Inc.
Currently being developed by the Skydweller Aero, the aircraft will have state-of-the-art analytics capabilities provided by Palantir’s Foundry platform which will boost the handling and fusing of complex data collected.
The software is expected to assist in analyzing the data aside from helping in the identification of objects on images collected by Skydweller’s day and night imaging cameras, imaging radar, and other sensors.
The software is also expected to be capable of faster actionable intelligence, and prevent limitations on the bandwidth which causes difficulties for other drones that collect data.
The data analysis will enable the aircraft to send small quantities of relevant data, weeding out high-resolution videos of empty blankets of areas. The success of the undertaking could drive the rollout of more solar aircraft with surveillance efforts.
Palantir is also credited with providing the US military a God’s eye view of Afghanistan, and assisting in efforts to find Osama bin Laden.
