Nonfarm Payrolls Rise by 531,000 in October as Unemployment Edges Lower

(BLS) US nonfarm payroll employment increased by 531,000 in October, while the unemployment rate shed 0.2% to 4.6% in the latest sign of labor market recovery.

The number of unemployed persons is now at 7.4 million, but still above the pre-pandemic level of 5.7 million. 

The labor force participation rate remained little changed at 61.6%, with the rate 1.7% below February 2020.

The number of persons in part time employment was little changed at 4.4 million, almost at the same level as February 2020.

The number of permanent job losers stood at 2.1 million, the same as October, but 828,000 above February 2020.

The number of people not in the labor force but wanting a job was little changed at 6.0 million, but 968,000 higher than February 2020.
