(Eurostat) Euro area posted an annual inflation of 5.1% in January, accelerating from December’s 5.0% and last year’s 0.9%.
In the EU, inflation was higher at 5.6% in January, more than 5.3% in December and last year’s 1.2%.
The highest contributor of annual inflation in the euro area in January was energy, with a surge of 2.80 percentage points while services came second with a gain of 0.98 percentage points.
The largest gain in annual inflation was recorded in Lithuania at 12.3%, followed by Estonia, and Czechia at 11.0% and 8.8%, respectively. France recorded the lowest annual rate of inflation at 3.3%, followed by Portugal and Sweden at 3.4% and 3.9%, respectively.
