Euro Area and EU’s Production in Construction Declines Again in December

(Eurostat) Production in the construction sector in the euro area fell by 4.0% in December, accelerating from another fall of 0.2% the previous month.

In the EU, production in construction was down 3.1% in December, after a fall of 0.1% in November.

In the euro area, building construction fell by 4.5% in December, while civil engineering was down by 1.9%. The same parameters fell by 3.6% and 1.3%, respectively, in the EU.

On a monthly basis, the largest declines in production in construction was in Austria, Germany, and France. The largest gains were in Hungary, Sweden, and Belgium.

Compared to the previous year, production in construction fell by 3.9% and 1.8% in the euro area and EU, respectively. 

For the year 2021, the average production in construction rose by 5.2% in the euro area from 2020 and was up by 4.8% in the EU.

DAX is down -0.44%, EURUSD is down -0.08%.
