Euro Area’s Current Account Surplus Fell by €10B in August

(ECB) The euro area posted a current account surplus of 13 billion euros in August, down from 23 billion euros in July.

Euro Area Current Account Balance

Goods posted a surplus of 17 billion euros, while services had a deficit of 1 billion euros.

Primary income had a surplus of 5 billion euros, which was dragged down by a deficit of 8 billion euros deficit by secondary income.

In the 12 months to August 2021, the current account surplus was 328 billion euros or 2.8% of GDP, an increase from 176 billion euros or 1.5% of GDP in the prior year.

Euro area residents acquired a net of 942 billion euros of non-euro area portfolio investment securities in the 12 months to August. Non-residents acquired 129 billion euros of euro area portfolio investments in the same period.

DAX is up +0.13%, EURUSD is down -0.04%.
