Elon Musk Questions the Future of Metaverse, Dismisses the Term as “Buzzword”

(Interview) Tesla CEO Elon Musk does not see the potential for a metaverse and Web 3.0 ecosystem and has instead preferred to call them “buzzwords” used for marketing.

Musk says he does not envision a world full of VR headsets that have long-term impacts on eyesight. He does not see a world where people leave the physical in favor of a virtual space.

The Tesla CEO says the VR headsets in a metaverse world cause motion sickness while playing video games, pointing that people are far from disappearing into the virtual world. He further opines that people will not choose to move around wearing VR headsets.

Musk lauded support for his neurotechnology company Neuralink which he says is the way into the virtual reality world.

The comments by Musk happen amid his strong support for crypto, in which he previously said governments could slow but not destroy digital assets. He calls for a non-interference of the crypto industry by the US government.
