EIA Reports a 4.3M Barrels Rise in US Crude Oil Inventories

(EIA) US stockpiles of crude oil rose by 4.3 million barrels to 415.9 million barrels in the week that ended March 11.

Total motor gasoline inventories fell by 3.6 million barrels, while distillate fuel inventories surged by 0.3 million barrels. 

The rise in crude inventories happened amid a 76,000 barrels per day surge in the oil imports by the US, which hit an average of 6.4 million bpd in the week to March 11. The imports rose by 15.7% in the past four weeks from the prior year to hit an average of 6.2 million bpd.

The refinery inputs in the week averaged 15.6 million bpd, an increase of 224,000 bpd from the previous week. Refineries were operating at 90.4% capacity. 

In the past four weeks, the total products supplied averaged 21.0 million bpd, an increase of 12.2% from the prior year.
