US Jobless Claims Slide by 15,000 to a More Than 2-Month Low

(Department of Labor) The US jobless claims were recorded at 214,000 in the week that ended March 12, a two-and-half-month low, after a decline of 15,000 from the previous week.

On a four-week moving average, the jobless claims declined by 8,750 to 223,000.

The continuing claims fell by 71,000 to 1.419 million. The claims were at the lowest since February 21, 1970.

The claims under various state programs totaled 202,894, a decline of 7.7% or 16,981. The fall was greater than expectations of a decline of only 0.7% or 1,486.

The continuing claims under state programs fell by 106,417 or 5.6% to 1.81 million. The decline was lower than expected fall of 1.8% or 35,141.

The initial claims rose the highest in New York, California, Kentucky, New Jersey, and Ohio. The largest declines in the initial claims were in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Tennessee, and Rhode Island.
