Barbados Leads Global Nations in Opening an Embassy in the Metaverse

(Bloomberg) Barbados is pushing for a virtual embassy in Decentraland in a bid to achieve “diplomatic parity.”

Gabriel Abed, Barbados’ real-world ambassador in the UAE, says the metaverse embassy is going to alter the way the world works by overcoming physical limitations.

Abed says the metaverse push would be a win to a small country like Barbados by introducing diplomatic parity, saying the country cannot support 197 embassies globally.

The diplomat says with a 166-square mile piece of land. The metaverse will make Barbados as large as other countries such as America and Germany.

Abed notes that the success of the Barbados embassy depends on other countries joining, saying that the country is sharing the experience with others.

The country’s diplomatic land in the metaverse is expected to cost between $5,000 and $50,000 to build. The expenses are covered by a grant from Decentraland and other users. Barbados has a population of 287,370.
