Virgin Galactic launched its VSS Unity flight on Monday at a speed of Mach 3, according to the company’s press release. The spaceflight is the company’s third and the first ever from New Mexico.
VSS Unity reached space at a 55.45 miles altitude before landing at Spaceport America in New Mexico.
New Mexico now becomes the third state in the US to send humans into space.
Virgin Galactic CEO Michael Colglazier says the flight shows the safety and elegance of its spaceflight system, a major boost to bring forth to the reality of space travel.
Virgin Galactic will now review all test data and evaluate the spaceship and mothership before the next test flight.
