(BLS) US job openings remained little changed at 11.3 million on the last business day of January. The rate of job openings also remained little changed at 7.0%.
Job openings declined in several industries, led by accommodation and food services which shed 288,000. Transportation, warehousing, and utilities lost 132,000 jobs.
Job openings rose the highest in services, with an addition of 136,000, while durable goods manufacturing added 85,000 jobs.
Hires and total separations held steady at 6.5 million and 6.1 million, respectively in January.
Quits rate fell to 2.8%, while layoffs and discharges rate was unchanged at 0.9%.
Over the 12 months to the end of January 2022, the total hires were 76.4 million, while separations totaled 70.0 million, resulting in a net employment gain of 6.4 million.
In 2021 alone, the total hires rose by 2.9 million from 2020 to 75.6 million. Total separations fell by 11.7 million to 69.0 million in the same period.
