(ADP National Employment) A total of 247,000 jobs were generated in the US private sector from March to April, compared to 455,000 jobs the previous month.
Large businesses generated the bulk of the jobs in April, with a total of 321,000 in the month, compared to just 46,000 by medium businesses. Small businesses lost 120,000 jobs.
By sector, service-providing entities generated the highest jobs in April of around 202,000.
Goods-producing businesses generated 46,000 jobs, while franchise jobs stood at 47,400 in the month.
ADP chief economist Nela Richardson said that the lower job additions were a sign of a slowing economy as full employment nears. He said that hiring demand remains strong but labor supply is a concern for goods and service providers.
