US Posts a 0.7% Jump in Retail Sales in August to Keep Levels Elevated From 2020

(Census Bureau) Retail and food services in the US in August was $618.7 billion, an uptick of 0.7% from July. The retail sales were 15.1% above August 2020.

Retail sales through June to August this year rose by 16.3% compared to the same period of 2020.

Retail trade sales gained 0.8% in August from July to remain 13.1% above the same period last year.

Clothing and clothing accessories stores posted an annual 38.8% surge in sales in August. Gasoline stations gained 35.7% in the same period.
