US Manufactured Goods Orders Accelerates by 1.4% In January

(Census Bureau) The US recorded $544.2 new orders for manufactured goods in January, up by 1.4% or $7.6 billion from December.

The manufactured goods orders have now increased in the last twenty of twenty-one months, with January’s jump higher than a surge of 0.7% in December.

Shipments also rose and were 1.2% or $6.2 billion above December to a higher $536.9 billion. The shipments rose by 0.7% in December.

Unfilled orders maintained a run of gains, and were up by 0.9% or $11.7 billion to a higher $1,283.5 billion. The orders rose by 0.8% in December.

Following the January gains, the unfilled orders-to-shipments ratio eased to 6.74, from a ratio of 6.80 in the previous month.

Inventories increased by 0.7% or $5.6 billion to hit $779.6 billion. The increase was higher than a gain of 0.4% in December. Overall inventories-to-shipments ratio fell to 1.45 from 1.46 in December.
