US jobless claims totaled 184,000 in the week ending April 16, down by 2,000 from the previous week. SPY is up +0.78%, DXY is down -0.08%.
- On a four-week moving average, the jobless claims were 177,250, up 4,500 from the previous week.
- The continuing claims were 1.417 million in the week to April 9, a decline of 58,000 from the previous week.
- The initial claims under state programs were 196,897, a decline of 12.2% or 27,235 from the previous week. The fall was a more than expected decline of 11.1% or 24,800.
- The continuing claims under the state programs were 1.476 million, down by 6.1% or 95,550. The claims were expected to decline by 2.3%, or 35,406.
- The initial claims rose the highest in Missouri, Michigan, California, Indiana, and Texas. The largest declines were in Ohio, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Utah, and Hawaii.
