US Crude Oil Inventories Below 5-Year Average After Falling by 2.1 Million Barrels

(EIA) US crude oil inventories plunged by 2.1 million barrels in the week that ended December 31 to 417.9 million barrels.  

Following the plunge, the crude inventories are now 8% below its five-year average for the similar period of the year. 

In the week, the US imported 5.9 million barrels per day, down by 0.9 million bpd from the previous week. The crude imports were at an average of 6.3 million bpd in the past four weeks, 16.7% above the prior year. 

Total crude refinery inputs rose by 163,000 bpd to an average of 15.9 million bpd. Refineries were operating at 89.8% capacity in the week.

In the past four weeks ending December 31, total products supplied averaged 21.4 million bpd, an increase of 14.5% from the prior year.
