Unemployment Rate Falls Marginally in the Euro Area in October, Stable in the EU

(Eurostat) Euro area unemployment was at 7.3% in October, a marginal decline compared to 7.4% in September and was down from 8.4% posted the previous year.

Euro Area and EU Unemployment Rates

In the EU, the unemployment rate held steady at 6.7% in October from the previous month and was below the 7.5% posted in the previous year. 

The number of unemployed persons fell by 64,000 in the euro area and 77,000 in the EU in October from September. The numbers were down by 1.564 million in the euro area and 1.650 million in the EU from the prior year.

The youth unemployment rate stood at 15.9% in October in the euro area and EU, a decline from 16.1% and 16.0% posted the previous month. 

By gender, the women unemployment rate was 7.7% in October from 7.8% in September in the euro area. Men unemployment held steady at 7.0%.

In the EU, women unemployment was 7.0%, from 7.1% in September. Men unemployment was 6.4%, from 6.5% the previous month.
