Unemployment Rate Falls Marginally in the Euro Area and EU in September

(Eurostat) The unemployment rate in the euro area was 7.4% in September, a decline from 7.5% recorded in August. The rate was lower in the EU at 6.7%, down from 6.9% in August.

September’s unemployment rate in the euro area and EU was a drop from last year, when it was 8.6% and 7.7%, respectively.

The number of unemployed persons in the euro area was down by 255,000 from August, while in the EU, the number fell by 306,000 in the same period. On a year over year basis, unemployed persons fell by 1.919 million in the euro area and 2.054 million in the EU.

Youth unemployment rate was 16.0% in the euro area, down from 16.3% in August, while in the EU, it was 15.9%, a decline from 16.1%. 

Women unemployment rate was 7.0% in the EU, a decline from 7.2% in August, while the same rate was 7.7% in the euro area, down from 7.9%.

Men unemployment was 6.5% in the EU, down from 6.6% in August, while in the euro area, it was 7.1%, down from 7.2%.
