Unemployment Rate Eases Slightly in the Euro Area and EU in December

(Eurostat) Unemployment rate in the euro area was posted at 7.0% in December, declining slightly from November’s reading of 7.1%. The rate was below 8.2% in the prior year.

Euro area and EU Unemployment Rates

In the EU, unemployment also eased to a lower rate of 6.4% in December, from 6.5% in November. The rate was below 7.5%, recorded in December 2020.

Youth unemployment in December stood at 14.9% in both the euro area and EU. The rate was down by 15.4% in the euro area and 15.3% in the EU from November reading. 

On a gender basis, the unemployment rate for women in the euro area was posted at 7.3% in December, down from 7.5% in November. In the EU, women’s unemployment stood at 6.6%, down from 6.8% in the same period.

Men’s unemployment was posted at 6.7% in the euro area in December, down from 6.8% in November. In the EU, men’s unemployment was recorded at 6.1%, declining from 6.2% from the prior month.

DAX is up +1.19%, EURUSD is up +0.35%.
