UK Records 1.65M Job Adverts in the First Week of August as Recovery Take Shape

(REC) About 1.65 million active job adverts were posted in the UK in the first week of August, with up to 204,000 new positions in the same week.

At 204,000 new job adverts, the figure is the fourth-highest since the start of the pandemic, reinforcing recoveries since the easing of restrictions in July.

Hotel operators recorded a 21% increase in job postings during the week, as the UK opened doors in the travel sector to fully vaccinated individuals from the US and Europe. 

Many sectors were hit by labor shortages, with photographers, audio-visual, and operations in broadcasting recording a surge in demand. 

The UK also saw a surge in wages as employees rushed to search and retain talent, a development that could prompt wage-spiral inflation. 

North West England had four out of the ten regions that recorded a surge in job postings, while four of the bottom ten were situated in Scotland.
