Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi expects the company to start delivering cannabis once federal regulation allows it to do so, according to CNBC. The CEO sees an opportunity in cannabis delivery, but for now, the company will focus its efforts on the current delivery options.
Marijuana remains illegal under federal law, but some lawmakers have expressed a willingness to change policy.
The federal government has allowed states to legalize the drug with little interference over the past few years.
16 states have legalized cannabis for recreational use, with New York the latest to do so after Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation on March 31.
Uber also posted record gross bookings for the month of March after a pickup in demand for its ride-hailing business, sending the stock up 2% on Monday.
