(BBC.com) Ride-sharing firm Uber is partnering with marijuana seller Tokyo Smoke to allow users to order cannabis products on the Uber Eats app in Ontario, Canada.
Uber Eats users will place orders through a dedicated section of the app which will then be delivered to the nearby store.
Users will be required to verify their age on the app and pick their orders in an hour.
Uber expects its partnership with Tokyo Smoke to allow Canadians to acquire cannabis in a safe and legal way.
The ride-sharing firm says it will continue monitoring market developments and regulations to utilize new opportunities in other regions. Currently, marijuana use in Canada is legal, but its transportation is prohibited by law.
The cannabis market in Canada is expected to grow to $6.7 billion by 2026. The current market is worth about CAD$5 billion or $4 billion a year.
