U.S. Initial Jobless Claims Falls in the Last Week of September

Seasonally adjusted unemployment insurance initial claims show 837,000. A 36,000 decline from previous week’s revised level, according to the latest Department of Labour press release.  The figure comes up 13,000 lower then estimated. 

  • 4-week average is 867,250. It is an 11,750 decline from the previous week’s revised figure from 878,250 to 879,000.
  • Unadjusted advance actual initial claims under state programs of 786,942 for week ending September 26, a 4.9% decrease from previous week
  • 52 states had 650,120 initial claims for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance for week ending September 26. 172,968 initial claims in the comparable week in 2019.
  • Insured unemployment decreased 0.6% to 8.1%

Stocks gaining relative to the dollar on weakening unemployment insurance claims. DXY is down 0.13%, SPY is up 0.77%, TLT is up 0.055%, XAUUSD is up 1.35%
