In response to President Trump’s order, the Department of Commerce announced to put a ban on WeChat and TikTok transactions from 20th Sep. To prohibit and safeguard the national security of the U.S. from China to invading the intellectual property, commerce official has published the new order today at 08:45 EDT.

- The department of Commerce issued the order on Friday that will ban people in the U.S. from downloading and making transactions against the China-owned messaging apps WeChat and video-sharing app TikTok.
- The U.S. will not stop Apple and Google to offer the service of WeChat and TikTik outside the United State.
- The ban can still be rescinded before it takes effect on the coming Sunday.
- An important decision is made, that the Commerce Department will not force U.S. based companies to do business on WeChat in China
- Current users of TikTik and WeChat will continue to use the Apps. However, they will not be allowed to install updates.
- In case there is no deal, the operations of TikTok will be stopped from Nov. 12. WeChat operations will stop on Sept. 20.
The winner among giant competitors for TikTok in the U.S. is likely to benefit from the decision. Some big names like Microsoft, Oracle, Twitter, Walmart are on acquisition map with Oracle leading.
