Suspected Kamikaze Drone Strikes Oil Plant in Russia’s Rostov Region

(FT) A drone attack, has hit an oil refinery in the Rostov region, southern Russia.

Fragments of two drones were found at the refinery, which caused a fire that ranged over 50 square-meter before being put out.

The precise type of drone is not yet known, with reports indicating that Ukrainian soldiers are turning to such equipment to carry explosives into Russia.

The explosion, which occurred around 150 kilometers behind the front lines, comes when Russia is accusing Ukraine of conducting attacks on its own territory. Moscow says Ukrainian forces are targeting major military installations, fuel depots, and infrastructure.

Without admitting responsibility for the latest attack, Ukrainian forces say hitting such a target with a “kamikaze drone,” 150km away, is “not bad.”

The attacks come when Ukraine is registering significant wins in some battlegrounds against Russian forces. The forces are already pushing the enemy away from Russian-held Kherson city.

Ukraine is banking on the western weapons systems to launch critical attacks. Still, western backers are unwilling to offer Ukraine sophisticated weapons to target Russia due to fear of Moscow’s retaliation.
