(Cryptoslate) A new partnership between the Lightning Network wallet, Strike and Shopify, NCR, and Blackhawk Network will make Bitcoin payments available to over 400,000 storefronts.
Strike owner Jack Mallers announced the partnership, saying that the online merchants on Shopify will be able to accept Bitcoin payments instantly, with no intermediary or 3% fee.
America’s biggest retailers such as Walmart, McDonald’s, Best Buy, and Home Depot are some of the firms expected to receive the payments through the Lightning Network.
Mallers says retailers will receive Bitcoin instantly from customers and immediately convert it into fiat without processing delays or costs.
The latest development happens amid the growing popularity of the Lightning Network, with firms such as Robinhood, Bitpay, and Kraken integrating the layer two solutions for faster and 0% fee Bitcoin payments.
Mallers’ announcement attracted applause from Bitcoin enthusiasts, with Twitter’s Jack Dorsey recognizing the “incredible inspiration.”
The partnership is now seen as a major step towards the mass adoption of Bitcoin, whose uptake has been hampered by frequent volatilities and lack of regulatory clarity.
