NFP: U.S Added 266,000 Jobs in April. Unemployment at 6.1%

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 266,000 in April, according to the Bureau of Labor statistics press release. Unemployment rate remained little changed at 6.1%, more than expected 5.8%.

The number of unemployed people stood at 9.8 million about the same as previous month.

Unemployment rate and unemployed people remain above the pre-pandemic levels of 3.5% and 5.7 million respectively, in February 2020.

The labor participation rate remained almost the same at 61.7% and is 1.6 percentage points below those of February 2020.

The number of people not in the labor force and want a job was little changed at 6.6 million, but above 1.6 million in February 2020.

The number of people on temporary layoff was little changed at 2.1 million.

Unemployment among Whites was the lowest at 5.3%, followed by Asians at 5.7%, Hispanics 7.9%, and Blacks 9.7%.

U.S stocks are currently gaining as the dollar loses. SPY is up 0.46%, QQQ is up 0.93%, EURUSD is up 0.48%
