Microsoft has reportedly held preliminary talks to buy video game chat platform Discord for $10 billion, according to Seeking Alpha. Discord is still open to other potential suitors, and no deal has been created with Microsoft yet.
Despite the reported deal talks, Discord could still decide to abandon the sale and go public.
Discord has more than 100 million active users and ‘would be a natural fit with Microsoft’s Xbox business.
The video game chat platform moved above $100 million in revenue last year and raised $100 million in a $7 billion valuation.
Discord was criticized after its use in planning activities in the racially-charged conflicts in Charlottesville, Va., and banned Reddit’s WallStreetBets group in January, citing hate speech.
Microsoft stock is currently declining. MSFT: NASDAQ is down 0.14% on premarket.
