(Microsoft) Microsoft announced a record net income of $20.5 billion in the first quarter of 2022, up 48% year over year.
Operating income rose by 27% to reach $20.2 billion. Diluted GAAP earnings per share was $2.71, which exceeded expectations up 49% from the prior year.
The company’s earnings were derived from a revenue of $45.3 billion, which was higher by 22% from the prior year.
Revenue in Microsoft’s Intelligent Cloud rose by 31% year over year to $17.0 billion. Productivity and Business Processes revenue rose by 22% to $15.0 billion, as Personal Computing posted a 12% increase in revenue to $13.3 billion.
In the third quarter, Microsoft returned $10.9 billion in the form of share repurchases and dividends, up 14% from the prior year.
