(Reuters) Our Next Energy, a Michigan startup, says its new battery prototype covered 752 miles or 1,210 kilometres drive on Tesla’s Model S.
The drive-test, in late December across Michigan, was done at an average speed of 55 miles per hour.
ONE’s founder and CEO, Mujeeb Ijaz, says the company selected Model S due to its “fairly high efficiency and large battery pack” that could fit ONE’s battery.
The coverage is significant as it surpasses even those of top range Lucid Air that covers over 500 miles of range.
Ijaz lauded the milestone, promising to build batteries in North America more economically while fulfilling the customer preferences.
The CEO now says the company seeks to eliminate nickel and cobalt in its Gemini battery without sacrificing energy intensity, with the objective to cover more than 750 miles of range.
Ijaz has served up to 30 years in the industry, leading teams in developing EV battery systems. He served as a senior executive at Apple and A123 Systems.
