La Poste Group has announced a collaboration with French utility company EDF Group to establish a joint venture focused on enhancing energy efficiency. As part of its efforts to reduce energy consumption and accelerate the decarbonization of its real-estate assets, the French postal service company plans to invest €400 million ($431.8 million) by 2030.
The joint venture, with La Poste Immobilier holding a 66% stake and EDF Group holding a 34% stake, aims to leverage expertise and experience in energy transition. The partnership will involve implementing energy performance control systems across nearly 1,300 sites, renovating energy systems at nearly 500 sites, and installing solar power plants at 250 sites.
La Poste’s real estate assets currently account for an annual energy consumption of 990 Gigawatt hours, which is equivalent to the energy consumption of a town with 300,000 inhabitants. These assets are jointly owned by the French government and the financial institution, Caisse des Depots et Consignations.
This collaboration signifies a major step for La Poste Group in its commitment to reducing energy usage and advancing sustainability practices.
