Jobless Claims Rise by 20,000 to Remain Above Forecasts

(Department of Labor) US jobless claims increased by 20,000 to reach 332,000 in the week that ended September 11 from the previous week. The claims were higher than the expected 330,000.

Claims on a 4-week moving average declined by 4,250 to 335,750. The claims were at the lowest level since March 14, 2020.

Continuing claims declined by 187,000 to 2.665 million.  The previous week’s continuing claims were revised up by 69,000 to 2.852 million.

The total initial claims under state programs declined by 8.2% or 23,331 to 262,619. The decline was lower than expected fall of 15.2% or 43,520.

The states of Louisiana, Michigan, California, Kansas and Nevada posted the largest increases in claims. Missouri, New York, Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia had the largest falls in initial claims.
