Jobless Claims Hit Another Pandemic Low After a Decline of 35,000

(Department of Labor) US jobless claims were 310,000 in the week that ended September 4, down by 35,000 from the previous week.

On a 4-week average, jobless claims were 339,500, a decline of 16,750 from the previous week. The claims were the lowest since March 14, 2020.

Continuing claims were 2.783 million, down by 22,000 from the previous week. The previous week’s continuing claims were revised up by 57,000 to 2.805 million.

The total claims under state programs were 284,287, a decline of 2.7% or 8,005 from the previous week. The claims were expected to increase by 9.2% or 26,906.

Initial claims were reported to have increased the highest in Missouri, Ohio, New York, Tennessee, and Florida. The largest falls in initial claims were in California, Illinois, Virginia, New Jersey, and Oregon.
