Iran expects to ship its first crude cargo from the new Jack terminal along the Oman Sea Coast next month, according to S&P Global. The shipment follows the completion of a major oil export pipeline along the Strait of Hormuz.
The Goureh-Jask oil pipeline can carry a 1 million barrels a day of crude from the West Karun fields in Iran to the Sea of Oman along the southern coast for export.
Military tensions with the U.S along the Strait of Hormuz shipping chokepoint forced Iran to consider building another facility for the Kharg oil terminal.
Iran’s oil rich southwestern and southern regions provide heavy oil to the Goureh pump station which is subsequently moved to Kharg Island.
Iran’s Goureh-Jask pipeline was initiated in June 2020 at a cost of $1.1 billion and is yet to be officially opened.
