Google will reduce the service fee for play store developers from 30% to 15% for the first $1 million of revenue earned each year, according to the company’s blog post. The change will allow 99% of developers globally that sell digital goods and services on play store to see a 50% reduction in fees.
Google’s fee reduction is part of its plan to help developers build sustainable businesses, which is a core part of Google Play’s mission.
The funds saved on fees will help developers scale up growth by hiring more engineers, adding their marketing staff, and increasing server capacity.
Google plans further discussions with the developer community to find ways to support them technically and economically as they build their businesses.
