(Ford) Ford announced 12,284 sales of electrified vehicles in the US in December 2021, an increase of 121.1% from the prior year.
The EVs grew at 36% faster than the overall segment in December. In 2021, Mustang Mach-E sales totaled 27,140, a record, enabling the company to become the second after Tesla.
Overall vehicle sales in December reached 173,740, down 17.1% from the prior year. Truck sales were down 15.5% to 91,699, while SUVs fell 11.1% to 77,377.
In December, Ford took in 70,000 in new vehicle retail orders, an increase of 58,000 vehicles from the prior year.
Ford became the only automaker in the US to hit half million sales in the last quarter of 2021, with sales of 508,451, up 26.8% from the prior year amid an overall industry decline of 3%.
The company now begins the new year with 247,000 vehicles in stock, an increase of 22,000 from November. The company expects to bank on its upcoming F-150 Lightning and E-transit in 2022 to grow further in the EV industry.
