Federal Legalization of Marijuana Moves Closer as Key Bill Gets Committee Approval

(MarijuanaMoment) The House Judiciary Committee has cleared the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement Act, paving the way for national cannabis legalization.

The bill, which was passed along party lines, received a 26-15 vote. Democrats supported it while only two Republicans passed the measure.

The proposed law is also boosted by the defense spending bill, which was passed a week ago and protects banks that serve state-legal cannabis businesses from federal incrimination.

MORE Act sponsors have lauded the bill passage calling it an important criminal justice reform law. Ranking Member Jim Jordan has criticized the proposed measure calling it a “radical and out-of-touch Democratic priority.”

The proposed legislation calls for the removal of marijuana from the federally Controlled Substances Act. It allows cannabis convicted people to have their records expunged, as well as the introduction of a cannabis tax at the federal level.

WEED is down -1.48%, TLRY is down -1.11%, ACB is up +0.57%.
