(IHS Markit) Eurozone Construction Total Activity Index was posted at 56.6 in January, up from 52.9 in December, its highest since the first month of 2018.
The expansion in construction activity was contributed by the robust growth of new orders, which rose at the quickest pace in the survey history.
House building was the strongest after rising at the fourth-fastest pace in history, while commercial construction reached the highest in four years. Civil engineering also saw an uptick in activity.
Staffing levels rose, with the pace of job creation rising at the fastest since February 2020.
Vendor performance was an impediment, with the average lead times increasing in the eurozone’s three of the largest members.
Inflation eased to the slowest rate since March, although it still remains above the long-run average.
Construction firms within the eurozone posted greater optimism, with the level of positive sentiment the highest since June 2019.
