Euro Area Slightly Beats EU in Industrial Production After a Monthly Gain of 1.5%

(Eurostat) Industrial production in the euro area rose by 1.5% in July from June, a slightly higher increase than the EU which posted a 1.4% jump.

On a year over year basis, industrial production was up by 7.7% in the euro area, below 8.3% in the EU.

Production of non-durable consumer goods was up by 3.5% in the euro area from June. Capital goods gained by 2.7%, durable consumer goods surged by 0.6% as intermediate goods gained 0.4%. Energy production declined by 0.6%.

Production of non-durable consumer goods was up by 2.8% in the EU from June. Capital goods rose by 2.4%, while intermediate goods gained 0.5%. Energy production was unchanged as durable consumer goods shed 0.2%.

Highest monthly gains in industrial output were registered in Ireland, Belgium, and Portugal. The largest declines were posted in Lithuania, Slovenia, and Croatia.
