Euro Area Current Account Surplus Remains Constant at €23 in January

(ECB) The current account surplus in the euro area was recorded at 23 billion euros in January 2022, the same as December.

Euro Area Current Account Balance

Services surplus in January was 16 billion euros while the goods surplus was 14 billion euros. Primary income had an account surplus of 6 billion euros, while secondary income was at a deficit of 13 billion euros.

In the twelve months to January 2022, the current account surplus was posted at 294 billion euros, an increase from 247 billion euros in the prior year.

In the twelve months to January, the net acquisitions by euro area residents for non-euro area portfolio investments was 669 billion euros. The non-residents’ net acquisitions of euro area portfolio investments were 138 billion euros.
