(Eurostat) The annual inflation in the euro area was 7.4% in March, compared to 5.9% in February and 1.3% a year earlier.
In the EU, the inflation hit 7.8% in March, up from 6.2% in the previous month and 1.7% the prior year.
The jump in the inflation was mainly fueled by energy prices, which shot up by 4.36 percentage points. Services increased by 1.12 percentage points, while food, alcohol and tobacco rose by 1.07 percentage points.
The lowest annual inflation was recorded in Malta at 4.5%, followed by France and Portugal at 5.1% and 5.5%, respectively. Inflation was highest in Lithuania, Estonia, and Czechia, with gains of 15.6%, 14.8%, and 11.9%, respectively.
