Euro Area and EU GDP Growth Slows in Q4 21, Employment Up 0.5% in Both Regions

The gross domestic product improved by 0.3% in the euro area in the fourth quarter of 2021 from the previous quarter. DAX is up +1.48%, EURUSD is up +0.33%.

Euro Area and EU GDP Growth Rates
  • In the EU, the GDP grew by a higher rate of 0.4% in the fourth quarter. 
  • The expansion in economic output in the euro area and EU was still lower compared to a growth of 2.3% and 2.2% in the euro area and EU, respectively, in the third quarter. 
  • The GDP expanded by 4.6% year-over-year in the fourth quarter in the euro area and 4.8% in the EU. 
  • Employment improved by 0.5% in both the euro area and EU in the fourth quarter from the previous quarter. The increase was still below 1.0% gain in the euro area in the third quarter and 0.9% growth in the EU.
  • On a year-over-year basis, employment improved by 1.1% in the euro area in the fourth quarter, while in the EU, it rose by 1.2%.
