EU Lags Euro Area in GDP Increases at 1.9% and 2.0%, Respectively

(Eurostat) GDP in the EU rose by 1.9% in the second quarter, compared to 2.0% in the euro area from the first quarter.

GDP growth rates over the previous quarter

GDP has now risen by 13.2% in the EU and 13.7% in the euro area compared to the same quarter of last year.

The GDP had contracted by 0.1% in the EU and 0.3% in the euro area in the first quarter following the imposition of coronavirus control restrictions.

Portugal had the largest increases in GDP from the previous quarter at 4.9%, while Austria and Latvia came second and third at 4.3% and 3.7%, respectively.

Lithuania and Czechia had the lowest increases in GDP at 0.4% and 0.6%, respectively.

DAX is down -0.84%, EURUSD is up +0.16%.
