Consumer Confidence Falls in the EU and Euro Area in January

(European Commission) Consumer confidence in the EU fell by 0.4 points in January from the previous month and was 0.1 points down in the euro area.

EU Economic Sentiment and Employment Expectations

Following the decline, the consumer confidence indicator reached -10.0 points in the EU and -8.5 points in the euro area. Both indicators are below the pre-pandemic level.

In December, the Economic Sentiment Indicator had fallen by 2.1 points in the EU to a lower 114.5. The sentiment was down by 2.3 points to 115.3 in the euro area.

The Employment Expectations Indicator had fallen by 1.4 points in December to 114.2 in the EU and shed 1.6 points in the euro area to 114.0.  The decline is the first since January 2021.

EURUSD is up +0.33%, DAX is down -2.50%.
